Prairie Junegrass Koeleria Cristata is a long lived perrenial. The plant has pale green-silvery colored flowers that look like long fuzzy spikes and bloom in May-July and mostly June precipitation. The lower stems are covered with small hair about 0.5 inches along the stem. The plant grows to about 1-2 feet, and is a cool season grass commonly found in sandy soil of dry upland prairies and open woods.

Prairie Junegrass Koeleria Cristata grows straight up, has relatively fine leaves and has a shallow root system. The plant prefers sandy or coarser soils but will grow on clay loam soils. It has low moisture requirements, needing as little as fourteen inches of annual precipitation per year. The Prairie Junegrass is used extensively for restoration work where high drought and fire tolerance is essential. It will develop a root system that reaches nearly two feet below the ground.
